Abstract
Studies on the effect of phorate and demeton on the control of the pea leaf miner, Liriomyza langei Frick, on sugarbeets demonstrated a marked reduction in damage inflicted by these insects in all treated plots. Plants in phorate-treated plots showed very little evidence of injury, having only small numbers of feeding punctures and very few mines. Demeton-treated plots were intermediate in damage between the phorate and control plots. Phorate applied as a seed treatment was effective in preventing punctures and the formation of mines on sugarbeet seedlings for 30 days after planting.
