Abstract

In this paper the authors describe the philosophy and basic features of the SIRO-PLAN land-use planning method. This is a procedure developed to suit Australian institutional arrangements for land-use planning and widely applied in that country since the mid-nine teen-seventies. It may be applicable in other countries. Plans are evaluated in the method in terms of their effectiveness in incorporating guidelines or policies expressing the attitudes of interest groups towards the major issues being addressed by the planning process.
