Unusual Foreign Body Reaction to A Braided Silk Suture: A Case Report

Abstract

An unusual reaction to a black braided silk suture left in place for a period of 6 weeks following a gingival graft procedure is reported. The reaction of the tissue to the suture material resulted in formation of a tumor‐like granuloma which consisted of chronic and acute inflammatory cell infiltrates and multinucleated foreign body giant cells. Removal of the suture and excision of the granuloma resulted in satisfactory healing with no damage to the graft.
