Abstract

The hydroid of Polyorchis penicillatus was found growing on the rock scallop, Himnites giganteus. The newly liberated medusa, which was recognizable as Polyorchis by the typical exumbrellar cnidocyst patches, was compared with the earliest stages of Polyorchis penicillatus from the plankton.
