Abstract

Continuous surveillance of a remote field is one of the applications of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Acoustic target localization is one of the methods that are used in surveillance application. Accuracy of acoustic target localization is one of the most important quality of service (QoS) metrics that greatly depends on the accuracy of time synchronization. Power saving is another important requirement of WSNs. In this paper a new time synchronization method is proposed that is specific for acoustic target localization in surveillance application and is combination of two known existing time synchronization methods. Simulation results show that proposed method with regard of time synchronization accuracy do more power saving in comparison with most of the commonly used time synchronization methods.
