Abstract

Due to its flexibility and simplicity, XML is rapidly emerging as the de facto standard for exchanging and querying documents on the Web. In this paper, we describe an approach for an efficient construction of path indexes for XML documents on relational databases. Our approach does not require the modification of RDBMSs and reduces the storage usage compared to the path table approach.
