Abstract

This article examines why, in light of today's economic and industry conditions, electric utilities should pursue demand-side management. Included in this discussion is a look at the advantages of demand management relative to supply-side strategies. These include economic, environmental, and public interest considerations. Finally, the author details the prerequisites for successfully implementing demand-side technologies already in existence.
