Abstract 2 3 In vitro sensitivity of different brands of antiamoebic drugs (metronidazole 4 tablets) against clinical isolates of Entamoeba histolytica in Bangladesh. 5 6 Background: Entamoeba histolytica , associated with high morbidity and mortality is a 7 major public health problem. The major drug of choice for treating amoebiasis is 8 metronidazole. Inappropriate usage, overdosing, or treatment with substandard 9 metronidazole could lead to drug resistance. About 100 pharmaceuticals manufacture 10 metronidazoles in Bangladesh . Continued surveillance for possible emergence of 11 resistance of metronidazole among clinical isolates is necessary for control of 12 amoebiasis.
