Abstract

The hydrodistilled essential oil from the leaves of Cymbopogon citratus Stapf grown in Zambia was analysed by GC and GC–MS. Sixteen compounds representing 93.4% of the oil were identified of which geranial (39.0%), neral (29.4%) and myrcene (18.0%) were the major components. Small amounts of geraniol (1.7%) and linalol (1.3%) were also detected. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
