Abstract

Summary An Indicator Species Analysis (ISA) of data taken from O.S. 1:25,000 maps produced eight map-square types. Vegetation was recorded in random 200 m2 quadrats in each map square type, and ISA produced sixteen vegetation groups. The vegetation classification can be used in the field by means of a dichotomous key. Using the frequencies of the vegetation groups in each map-square type, the proportions of the vegetation groups in any area of the Cairngorms can be predicted.
