Abstract
A list of countermeasures against destructive arcing in glow discharge treatment of metal surfaces is given. A number of standard precautions is briefly reviewed and it is pointed out that one can provide an independent cathode thus taking the workpiece out of the electrical circuit. The workpiece has to be heated and the active species from the discharge have to diffuse to the workpiece. Large objects can be treated by several discharges.
