Abstract

This paper studies the impact of agricultural extension on agricultural production technical efficiency, using data from agricultural census of China. A stochastic frontier production model is applied to evaluate the effects of agricultural extension on technical efficiency. The empirical results suggest that agricultural extension play positive role on technical efficiency. Provinces with more agricultural extensions and more extension personnel exhibit higher production efficiency. The State should encourage and support farmers to participate in the activities of agricultural extensions.
