宿根スイートピーの開花に及ぼす日長の影響を調べた.8∿12時間日長の短日条件では開花せず, 16時間日長ないしは暗期中断で開花が促進される長日植物であることが明らかになった.なお, 早期に播種して最低15℃の温室で16時間日長として栽培すれば, 周年開花が可能と考えられた.
