Abstract

The propagation of sound in an acoustically lined rectangular duct is investigated for the case when there is a uniform flow in the duct. Solutions are obtained for the sound attenuation in the duct for propagation upstream and downstream in the fundamental mode. It is found theoretically that the frequency at which the peak attenuation for a given lining occurs is increased for downstream propagation and decreased for upstream propagation. Comparisons are made with experimentally determined data and are found to be quite favorable.
