INITIAL "pa" IN A SHANSI DIALECT A PROBLEM OF GRAMMAR BY WILLEM A. GROOTAERS, C.I.C.M. CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTORY FACTS THE PROBLEM Northern Chinese dialects use the word pa, in written language re, as a means of changing the normal sequence of the words by bringing the direct object of a verb to the beginning of the sentence.
