Abstract

Many hundreds of soldiers were audiometrically examined by our institute during the last few years. Among other things, this investigation aimed at getting an idea of the measure of hearing damage due to the noise of light firearms. It is well known that this noise can be the cause of a permanent hearing loss as well as a temporary hearing fatigue. In both cases, the audiogram shows a so-called dip. In a previous article1we entered into (in detail) the possible relation between the permanent and the temporary dips due to the same noise, specifically the noise of light firearms. It appeared that, generally, the permanent dips are localized in a somewhat higher frequency region in the audiogram and they are somewhat more pointed and slender than the temporary dips. All our audiograms were made according to the method of continuous audiometry with an audiometer (Peekel, type D4). For
