Abstract
An account is given of model tests on the manoeuvrability of a widebeam tanker (L/B = 5.2) during which the effects of rudder area and stern form on manoeuvrability were investigated. Rudder area variations stern form on manoeuvrability were investigated. Rudder area variations tested were: A sub R/L.d - 1/60, 1/55 (two variants), 1/50, 1/40, and 1/35. The results show that manoeuvrability is improved if the rudder area ratio is greater than 1/50. Order from BSRA asn No. 52,437.
