Abstract

Soquip, owned by Quebec Province, has developed possibly the first system in North America for transporting natural gas from the well head to industrial customer by truck, which it claims to be the most economical method. Natural gas is compressed to a maximum pressure of 2400 psi, and the dehydrated gas is collected in 34 feet x 22 inch diameter tubes that fit 12 to a truck. Each specially designed truck can carry approx. 200,000 cubic feet of gas at a time. Soquip uses a fleet of three trucks to deliver gas from Saint-Flavien field, near Quebec City, to Brique Citadelle Limitee, a brick manufacturer at Beauport, about 45 miles away. Soquip has spent about $1.5 million on equipment at the compression station and unloading ramp for the project. R. Petsinger (LNG Serv. Inc.) developed the basic engineering concepts and specifications for the project; Gardner Cryogenics prepared the specifications for the trucks; and U.S. Steel manufactured the truck tubes.
