Abstract

Blood volume pulse pressure waveforms could provide supplementary diagnostic data relating to the functionality of the cardiovascular system. Existing equipment for observing such waveforms are very expensive, thus limiting their potential use and expansion in clinical diagnostics and research applications. In this project, a new low-cost system to allow the wider use of pulse-pressure waveform analysis in routine examination has been proposed. The new system can be interfaced directly to any common inflated cuff type blood pressure metering device and to the desktop computer, enabling direct observation, recording and analysis of the waveforms during routine patient examination.
