Abstract
In this paper we demonstrate that the dynamic traffic assignment model INDY is capable of being used for the (traffic) impact assessment of applications of dynamic road marking. We therefore investigate the effects of applying dynamic road marking on the ring around Amsterdam using INDY. The Amsterdam ring road is congested during most of the day, but especially during the peak periods in the morning and evening rush hours. In this paper, the focus is on the morning peak hours. The most significant results are, firstly, that the choice of route changes significantly with the added capacity on the ring road and, secondly, average speed increase on the ring road. The third finding is that the negative effects on throughput are avoided. (A)
