Abstract

The Smart Ride Stuff: Commuter Rewards Program is a membership club for commuters who use alternative transportation - train, bus, carpool, vanpool, bike, walk, telecommute, and compressed work week. A joint effort of the Connecticut and New York State Departments of Transportation, the program is designed to reward and retain current customers, as well as attract new riders. The program offers a case study in both commuter incentives and inter-agency partnerships: two states, seven counties, two commute management organizations, 900 merchants, and seventeen transit operators are involved in the program.
