Abstract
Of malaria incidence in Hongya County from 1950 to 2008,98.90% was in areas ≤700 m above sea level.Of this incidence,70.21% was concentrated primarily in May to October.The age of onset was 20-59 years;most individuals affected were rural residents,and more men than women were affected.Morbidity rates peaked in 1954,reaching 6 422/10~5,and then gradually declined.Of the mosquitoes in Hongya County,most were Anopheles sinensis,accounting for 75.21%.Malaria infection in humans was the result of a mosquito bite in 83.05% of cases.Anopheles sinensis and Plasmodium vivax grow and develop in the comfortable climate in Hongya County.Brief spikes in malaria epidemics and local outbreaks are a possibility.
