Abstract
Mycorrhizal association in Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) grown in four different areas of South India was recorded. Observation on physico-chemical properties of rhizosphere soils, arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal spore count and root colonization were recorded. AM spores isolated were of Acaulospora scrobiculata, Gigaspora margarita, Glomus aggregatum, G. deserticola, G. fasciculatum, G. geosporum, G. mosseae, Sclerocystis pachycaulis, S. pakistanica, S. sinuosa and Scutellospora heterogama. The mycorrhizal spore density was maximum at Mariayammankovil and minimum at Papanasam. Root colonization percentage range between 34 and 84%. Glomus mosseae was confined to acidic soils only. The mycorrhizal fungi Glomus aggregatum, G. deserticola, G. fasciculatum and Gigaspora margarita were encounted in all the four study sites.
