Abstract
The potential market for diesel engines for trucks is assessed. The 50 to 100% better fuel economy for diesels compared to gasoline engines and rising fuel costs indicates that fuel savings could more than compensate for the larger initial investment of the diesel truck. Current plans of various diesel engine producers are discussed, including retrofitting gasoline-powered trucks with diesel engines. (PMA)
