Abstract

This paper reports that one type of HVAC retrofitting project commonly implemented in existing facilities is to replace old, inefficient absorption chillers with new high efficiency electric centrifugal chillers. In most cases, the decision is made not because of the condition of the existing absorption chillers, but because of the energy savings that would pay for the replacement chillers within a reasonable time period.
