Abstract
Juvenile growth performance of Chabro birds was studied under intensive system of management during winter season in Kashmir valley. The mean body weight at 0, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th and 7th week of age was 38.27 ± 0.53, 87.55 ± 0.87, 145.04 ± 3.48, 237.03 ± 4.14, 352.64 ± 7.14, 546.99 ± 12.16, 812.05 ± 11.39 and 1111.86 ± 28.34 g, respectively, and mean feed conversion ratio (FCR) during 0–1, 1–2, 2–3, 3–4, 4–5, 5–6, 6–7 and 0–7 weeks age was 2.38 ± 0.09, 2.36 ± 0.11, 2.33 ± 0.07, 2.23 ± 0.05, 2.45 ± 0.12, 2.58 ± 0.13, 2.53 ± 0.39 and 2.46 ± 0.10, respectively. Economic analysis revealed a modest return of Rs 4.75 per bird and Rs 4.30 per kg live body weight. The study revealed that Chabro birds performed reasonably well under intensive system of management.
