Abstract
There have been a number of transport studies undertaken for Mysore City, in which four stage modeling have been adopted. The mode choice models developed in these studies are the demand models primarily based on aggregate data. With a view to incorporating the public transport policy measures and to improve the public transport system, an attempt has been made to develop a Logit model for Mysore city. Though a logit model has not been developed for a city size like that of Mysore for most of the cities in India, but as per present Urban Transport Policy, more stress is to be laid on mobility of people with respect to use of public transport system. Hence, it was proposed to model the mode choice for public and private transport modes by considering the travel maker's and travel mode's characteristics. The parameters, such as cost, time and accessibility index for public and private mode have been considered for the model as these variables will lead to better understanding and simulation of people's behavior in choosing the alternative modes. The purpose of the exercise is to report the estimates of foreseeable changes to user preferences towards alternate mode choice in view of the travel time and travel cost savings. Such estimates shall serve as important ingredients for developing travel demand scenarios and assess changes in mode preference in horizon years.
