Abstract

Objective To investigate the healing effect of huangguaxiang in curing bacterial vaginosis.Method Patients were administered huangguaxiang extract to cure bacterial vaginosis, with metromidazole as the control.Assessment of clinical symptoms, measurement of pH,clew cells and ammonia test of vaginal swab specimen were performed at the beginning and end of the trial.Result Most symptoms were extenuated after the treatment with the 2 drugs. There were significant differences before and after treatment(P0.01).And the pH values of more than 50% of vaginal specimens were less than 4.5.More than 83% sampels showed a negative result in the measurement of clew cells and ammonia test. The total efficacy rates were 76.66%(Huangguaxiang) and 79.4%(mitronidazole).There were no significant differences between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Intra-vaginal administration of huangguaxiang extract had similar effects as Metronidazole and it may be a new method in the treatment of bacterial vaginits.
