Abstract

European standards for railway track are discussed. Areas of focus as they apply to standardization include: rails and welding of rails; track construction and maintenance machines; track-alignment design parameters; sleepers and bearers; fastening systems; switches and crossings; track geometry quality; noise barriers; slab track; vehicle/track interaction; and railway ballast.
