Abstract
This report is designed to describe how and why people travel and what the major influences are on their choice of transport. The major source of the data used in the department of transport's 1975/76 national travel survey, and in this report numbers of journeys are analysed, and the results tabulated according to travel modes, purpose, length of journey etc. Variations in travel patterns that result from different locational, social or economic characteristics are thereby catalogued.
