Abstract
Objective To investigate the antibacterial activity induced in larvae of the housefly by pricking at different pH levels.Methods After larvae were pricked for 48 h,hemolymph was collected from the surviving larvae and was tested against Micrococcus lysodeikticus and Staphylococcus aureus under different pH conditions.Diameters of clear inhibitory rings were observed and recorded to express antibacterial activity.Results The largest antibacterial ring was found at pH6.5 in a group tested against M.lysodeikticus.Similarly,this ring was found at pH5.5 and 6.0 in groups tested against S.aureus.The diameter of the antibacterial ring decreased along with an increase in pH.Conclusion Findings suggest that the antibacterial activity of antibacterial substances induced by pricking in the housefly is related to pH.This activity is greatest under slightly acid conditions.
