Abstract

The Hanford Waste Vitrification Plant (HWVP) is undergoing design and will be constructed at the Hanford Site near Richland, Washington. This facility will vitrify pretreated, Hanford Site defense, liquid high-level and transuranic wastes into borosilicate glass. Molten glass will be poured into stainless steel canisters for eventual interment at a geologic repository. The facility is designed for remote operation and maintenance.
