Abstract
Westinghouse Hanford Company in Richland, Washington, has integrating contractor responsibility for development, design, construction, and operation of the Hanford Waste Vitrification Plant (HWVP). The HWVP will be built for the US Department of Energy (DOE) to vitrify liquid high-level and transuranic (TRU) waste produced by defense activities at the Hanford Site. Start of construction is scheduled for 1992. Hot startup is scheduled for December 1999. Process design, project status, and requirements related to feed flexibility, interfaces with existing Hanford Site facilities, and other site-specific requirements are discussed in this paper.
