Interrelationship Between Yield and Yield Attributing Traits in Niger Germplasm

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the kharif season of 2013–14 at Niger Research Station, Navsari Agricultural University, Vanarasi (Gujarat), India to determine the interrelationship between yield and its contributing components in niger (Guizotia abyssinica). Total 200 germplasm accessions were received from PC Unit, AICRP on Sesame and Niger, Jabalpur (MP) and an experiment was laid out in augmented block design with 4 blocks in a spacing of 30cm x 10cm and supplied the recommended dose of NPK (20:20:00). The results revealed that phenotypic correlation was higher in magnitude than genotypic ones due to effect of environmental factors on the associations of characters. Seed yield per plant exhibited the highest significant positive genotypic correlations with days to 50% flowering, number of capsules on branches followed by test weight. However, an interrelation study indicates that plant height and number of branches had a significant positive correlation with capsules per plant and number of seeds per capsule whereas negative significant correlation was observed between branches per plant and test weight (g).
