ASTRONOMYAfter a difficult gestation, the Space Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF) was christened this week. NASA is renaming SIRTF the Spitzer Space Telescope in honor of the late astrophysicist Lyman Spitzer Jr., who first conceived of a large telescope in orbit.
