Abstract
One of the largest offshore secondary recovery projects of all time is currently under way in the Middle East. Off the coast of Abu Dhabi lie 2 producing oil fields that are the target of a $750 million waterflood and oil- production expansion project that will rejuvenate flagging output and boost oil recovery for years to come. The project and the fields--Umm Shaif and Zakum--are operated on behalf of the concession holders by Abu Dhabi Marine Areas Ltd. (ADMA) pending the formation of an operating company jointly owned by ADMA and Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. (ADNOC). BP's engineering department has devised standarized water-injection modules especially for the Abu Dhabi project. With a capacity of 100,000 bpd each, the design was adopted to enable a phased expansion of the systems at any location with the minimum of offshore engineering effort.
