The aim of this final year dissertation was to improve and expand on many studied areas that have been covered over the past three years. The aim of this project is to investigate and understand the elements involved in the design of a sailing cruising catamaran. \nCatamarans provide a different idea of sailing and the design has to satisfy the client’s requirements: good accommodation with comfortable exterior and in particular \ninterior spaces, performance, shallow draft which provides access to difficult places, ease of handling and comfort underway, stability with minimal heeling and minimal \nrolling downwind and safety to survive from severe weather. \nThe design of this type of boat presents many particulars which have to be considered with caution. The main objective is to get a better understanding of all associated problems involved in the design of catamaran both from the structural point of view and from the hydrodynamic point of view. \nSailing catamaran are growing up in the actual market. The bad reputation as a craft easy to capsize is disappearing and the sailing cruising market is allowing an increasing in space. Multihulls show a pleasant idea of sailing for leisure and commercial purposes.
