Abstract
Two strings of 2-3/8-in. special tubing run inside 7 in. P-110 and SOO-125 casing made up a unique high- pressure completion in what is considered to be the deepest well yet drilled offshore: total depth was 19,400 ft. The second string provides a kill line, a circulating system and a chemical injection line. The well is located in the Vermillion Block 16 field in 20 ft of water about 23 miles SW. of Intracoastal City, La. Completed as a high-pressure gas condensate producer, the well experienced one side-track operation due to a stuck drill collars and tested 2 turbodrills. Parallel strings of 2-3/8 in., 5.3-lb/ft tubing were selected in preference to a concentric kill string to permit injection of corrosion inhibitor to bottom and because the larger area of the string would not restrict deliverability of production. More clearance was available for wire line work inside the tubing.
