Abstract
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value and clinical significance of full-field digital mammography and color Doppler ultrasonography in benign and malignant breast diseases. Methods 100 patients with breast lesions were reviewed in the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University between June and December,2006. Results The pathologic diagnosis showed 57 benign and 43 malignant findings. Early carcinoma was found in 7 cases;the full-field digital mammography detected all these cases and the color Doppler ultrasonography missed 3 cases. The sensitivity, negative predictive value, and false-negative rate of malignant lesions were 93.02%,93.75%,and 6.98% for full-field digital mammography;81.40%,86.21%,and 18.6% for color Doppler ultrasonography;95.35%,95.35%,and 4.65% for combined application, respectively. Conclusion Full-field digital mammography and color Doppler ultrasonography have diagnostic value in detecting breast diseases, each having advantage when used separately, and combined using can elevate sensitivity and negative predictive value and decrease the false-negative rate. Full-field digital mammography is superior to color Doppler ultrasonography in detection rate for malignant lesions, early carcinoma, and micro calcification. Color Doppler ultrasonography has a higher detection rate than full-field digital mammography in benign breast diseases.
