Abstract

This paper presents an attempt in the field of the intranet/Internet technologies use in education, especially in on-demand learning at the Department of Information Science at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Rijeka (Croatia). The first stage of the ongoing research which deals with improved communication and information flow between students and teachers using intranet (LAN with the TCP/IP protocol based on PC/Windows platform and connected to Internet) is described. These collaborative applications include e-mail consultancy, discussion board and mailing list about the teaching subject, and Web server with teaching materials, teaching tips, and other information for students. Evaluation of the results of this phase is given and further steps that will include the development of the environment for authoring and using interactive hypermedia courseware on our Intranet are described.
