Abstract

Sr is first concentrated by a carbonate precipitation in 5 liters of water. Ca is separated by a fuming HNO/sub 3/ precipitation. The total Sr/sup 90/ + Sr/sup 89/ content is thus determined in two hours with a maximum error of plus or minus 10%. Sr/sup 90/ alone is determined within a maximum error of plus or minus 10% by counting the Y/sup 90/ daughter 24 hours later. As small as 5 x 10/sup -11/ curies/1 of Sr/sup 90/ can be determined by these methods, an order of magnitude lower than the maximum permissible concentration in water. (R.V.J.)
