Abstract

The sugar factory of the town of Spitak was one of the most important factories of The Republic of Armenia. Also, it was the only sugar factory of the Trans-Caucasus region and was able to fully satisfy the demand for sugar for the Republic of Armenia before the earthquake of 1988, when it was almost totally destroyed. At the time of its destruction, the factory was processing 1,500 tons of locally cultivated sugar-beet daily. The paper attempts to show that the operation of the sugar factory is economically viable and that the restoration of the factory may be worthwhile.
