Abstract
A method is described for producing titanium-clad steel by a patentcd sandwich vacuum-brazing procodure. The brazing parameters such as filler-metal composition, brazing cycle, degree of vacuum, and surface preparation methods were investigated. The strongust claddings (shear strength > 20,000 psi) were produced using BAg8 brazing alloy (the silver-copper eutectic composition) at its lowest possible brazing temperature (1460 to 1500 deg F). Procedures and joint designs for making sound ductile weldments in the clad plate were developsd. (auth)
