Abstract
ISO 3951 (1981) Sampling Procedures and Charts for Inspection by Variables for Percent Defective has been reviewed by ISO/TC69/SC5/WG3 and revised primarily to eliminate an oversight in the procedure for combined double specification limits when the process standard deviation is known. The oversight can be traced back to MIL-STD-414 (1957) and has existed, at least until very recently, in most national standards for sampling by variables. This paper describes and justifies the significant amendments to ISO 3951 (1981), the revised version of which is expected to be published towards the end of the year.
