Abstract
Although our primary interest lies in software dependability, in considering the development of a dependable computing system, identifying all of the system components that might be subject to design faults is important. The real issue is to tolerate design faults, and the techniques developed for software fault tolerance apply to design fault tolerance in other complex logical structures such as processors.
