Abstract

Technical report:The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 was passed to protect public health and the environment from the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes and to conserve natural resources through conservation. Three major programs formed under the act to fullfill these objectives are discussed. In particular, the hazardous waste regulatory program is examined. General RCRA requirements for the treatment of hazardous wastes are outlined. Specific waste regulations for the treatment of oil and gas field muds and brines are also considered.
