Abstract
Objective: To study the role of Substance P (SP) in the pathogenesis of acne vulgaris. Methods: ELISA was used to measuer the levels of SP, Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) in Serum and Lesion from 64 patients with acne vulgaris and 32 normal controls. Results: The Serum and Lesion levels of SP, IL-1 and IL-6 in acne vulgaris were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P<0.01); There were no significant differences in SP, IL-1 and IL-6 levels between the patients with Ⅰ, Ⅱ degree and those with Ⅲ, Ⅳ degree of acne vulgaris. Conclusion: These findings indicate that SP may be closely assoiated with the etiology of acne vulgaris and play a important role in the pathogenesis of the disease.
