The farmer in the semi-arid tropics of West Africa: a partially annotated bibliography

This is a p a r t i a l l y annotated b i b l i o g r a p h y of f o r m a l l y and semi-formally published documents on socioeconomic aspects of farm and v i l l a g e production systems in the semi-arid t r o p i c s of West A f r i c a .These references were used in preparing the companion volume to t h i s report by the same authors e n t i t l e d Farm and village production system in the semi-arid tropics of West Africa:an interpretative review of research (ICRISAT Research B u l l e t i n no. 4, Volume 1, October 1981).A t o t a l of 1045 references are i n c l u d e d , 661 of them w i t h annotations from various sources.Most of them are dated from 1960 to 1980, and cover material r e l a t i n g to ten count r i e s : Benin, Camaroon, Chad, Gambia, Ghana, M a l i , N i g e r , N i g e r i a , Senegal, and Upper V o l t a .The l i t e r a t u r e c i t e d is predominantly socioeconomic in n a t u r e , and mainly concerns r a i n f e d crops.Livestock and i r r i g a t i o n are considered only i n the context o f t h e i r i
