Abstract

A Wall Street analyst discusses the competition that the public power industry will face. He describes the types of competition, and makes some recommendations on how utilities can meet the challenge. The recommendations include using derivative products to more closely match the terms and characteristics of assets and liabilities, greater scrutiny of investment policies, the use of energy price management techniques, targeted rate schedules, etc.
