Abstract
New and improved methods for the underground storage of liquid and solid wastes at the Hanford Plant are discussed. The burial of solid wastes involves several steps of waste segregation, volume reduction, packaging in retrievable containers, and enclosure in covered concrete V-trenches. The handling of liquid radioactive wastes is described. Information is included on waste processing for radioisotope removal, waste solidification and encapaulation, liquid waste storage in underground tanks, and the monitoring of waste storage facilities.
